I always get a little weirded out by dragon shifter books. When I was suggested Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison I was a little hesitant to pick it up. I am always waiting for some sort of huge D&D inspired fantasy plot line. I hate those. That did not happen here. The book was set contemporary and it stayed that way.

As I was looking up this book a lot of the reviews seemed to compare it to Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. Well, after reading it I couldn’t possibly agree more. There were a lot of similarities in these books. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. Not even a little bit. If you like one you should love the other.

Dragos, the hero of this book is very Raphael in that he is old. By old I mean ancient. Ancient and full of so much power and responsibility. Dragos runs several largely successful corporations while still keeping a handle on a good chunk of the preternatural world.

Pia, our heroine is used to being on the run. She is a pretty all around tough chick who can give even the strongest men a run for their money.

Are we seeing the similarities? The only thing that makes me want to pout is it seems this series is going to follow the “one book per couple” formula. As much as there were quite a few really interesting characters introduced I am not quite done with our original pair. I feel like we need a nice amount of follow up. Things were left kind of in the air. We may see a lot of what is going on in the upcoming books. Who knows? I just didn’t get my fill of their story.

Yet another first book in a new series that has me counting down till the second and third. Both are slated for a 2011 release. At this rate i am going to be helping the book economy out in a major way.
